my parents were interested in trying indian food for their first time, and this was a great restaurant for both them and my husband who was looking for a lot of flavor and spice. we started with the vegetarian and lamb samosas, shami kabab, and lal mirch jinga (shrimp). the samosas had a great crusty pastry and the filling on both was moist and flavorful. i loved the shrimp, chargrilled with an interesting spice rub. the kabab was a little dry and dense for my taste. i enjoyed the three tasting sauces that were served, but may have liked some direction on which ones paired best with the appetizers. we decided to split the chicken tikki masala, lamb vindaloo, and chicken mussalam. all three were delicious, and the chicken mussalam was a surprise hit for my dad. the vindaloo sauce was appropriately spicy, and all three also had big chunks of meat and plenty of sauce. the naan was fresh and flavorful and we finished two portions. we also tried the badami kheer (rice pudding) and kulfi (ice cream) for dessert. the kulfi was my favorite, and was a thicker, slightly sweet ice cream that was very refreshing. the rice pudding had a great milky flavor, but the texture was a little runnier than i would have preferred.

I love their foods (considered the best among others). I have their lunch buffet at $10 (excluded taxes and tips) and I love the dessert and the spinach with goat cheese (warning to those who don't eat spicy food), this is a bit spicy but I love it. Great environment and friendly staffs. Good for group, family as well as individual. I will definitely visiting again.

Amazing Indian food! Great service. Ordered the chicken vindaloo with slum dog pan. Great flavor. Really spicy to!

I won't say it's the best indian cuisine I've ever had, but for a reasonable price of $9.99 lunch buffet, the food was good, plenty of choices, cheap price, it's worth to dine in here. by the way, my husband and I are back here for dinner take-out, the prices are of course different(much expensive because it's dinner) I will update you.

Best Tikki Masala I've ever had!! Creamy and rich!! Chicken was so tender. Samosa was very moist. Great combo platter. Definitely our new favorite Indian restaurant hands down!

Omg the food is the only reason to consider this place. The waiter held Water cups by the top and poured the water in between his fingers!! Who does that? They messed up my drink order 4 times. And when I ordered a second mixed drink they refilled my used cup and left the old limes in it. The waiter was missing repeatedly for extended periods, he was in the back of the restaurant chatting on his phone. Coming from the service industry I have never a Bad tip before but I did this time.

While driving along I-495 on a sunny Tuesday, I stopped off at the Bollywood Grill in North Andover for the Lunch Buffet, which was priced at $9.95 plus tax (on Mon-Thurs). I arrived here around 12:30 PM and I was promptly seated near the buffet. On my visit, the buffet was stocked with around 20 items including chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, mattar paneer, chicken korma, zeera rice, naan, chicken pakoras, vegetable pakoras, raita, salad (lettuce, tomato slices, cucumber, red onions), basmati rice, vegetable biryani, chutneys, and badami kheer. The food on the buffet was pretty good with several dishes tasting spicy. The vegetable biryani and chicken tikka masala were my favorite main dishes. The vegetable pakoras were chewy and the chicken pakoras were crispy outside. The dessert (badami kheer) rice pudding was sweet and refreshing with a creamy, not too milky texture with cardamom, raisins, sliced almonds, and rose water. The service was adequate and my used dishes were cleared between trips. The lunch buffet was very filling and a good way to try several Indian dishes and items at a reasonable price.

been coming here for 7 years and haven't found an Indian restaurant since that can get chicken korma as perfect as they do!! Also LOVE chicken marsala, chicken saag, and mango lassi (this is a drink). Hope they stay around! Only complaint is their sizes- they've gotten smaller over time making it seem overpriced.

I came here for dinner with some friends. The Bollywood theme looks corny from the outside but it's actually really nice inside. I typically do Indian lunch buffets so the pricing for dinner was a bit expensive. We got Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Samosas, Plain/Garlic Naan, a Lamb dish and drinks. Everything was served hot and tasted divine. I LOVED their garlic naan. Their drinks are STRONG which is awesome. Servers were attentive. I'm definitely coming back but most likely for their lunch buffet, so I can try more dishes!

Finally authentic - quality Indian food. I know all the local places around Newburyport and each pales in comparison to Bollywood. The sauces aren't thick red concoctions that jiggle in your bowl, the bread is light and crispy. The mix of spices is what I am familiar with when eating with my Indian friends - well balanced not too hot and enchanting the food. I'm so glad we tried them. Let the strip mall scare you away it just means more food for me!

Huuuuuge, long hair in my foooood!!!! It was actually cooked into what I was eating. Some kind of fried ball...WITH ITS OWN HANDLE!! Like those balloons with the rubber band attached. Walked out after telling the manager and he expected us to pay. Yeah...no.

I've been to a few Bollywood Grills and this location was decent compared to the rest. That being said I was happy to find solid Indian food up in North Andover.

Brought the family for the wife & I's anniversary tonight. We contemplated trying a 'more local to us now' Indian cuisine restaurant but didn't want to leave anything to chance. As expected, we were VERY glad we did. Bollywood Grill has never disappointed. From ordering 'risky' and trying something new (we are not Indian so a lot of these flavors are new to us), to simply ordering from the lunch buffet, even take out, to the friendly and accomodating staff, BG is INCREDIBLY consistent. We had chicken tikka masala (2 orders 1 hot for me and 1 mild for the kids), lamb vindaloo and of course garlic naan and mango lassi. BG has been so good it has triggered us to eat Indian as regularly as a family will order Chinese food, but i have to say BG has remained 'the bar for others to reach'

Great traditional tandoori clay oven items that are delicious and gluten free! Their Missi Roti is hard to come by in most Indian restaurants and enough to come back for in itself. Great, traditional selection that is well spiced. The only thing missing is a thali selection just like in India.

When calling for an order, one of the employees responded with a "HELLO", instead of "BOLLYWOOD GRILL, MAY I HELP YOU?". I thought that I called a resident or maybe wrong number. Twice, I asked if it was Bollywood Grill and he told me that I was calling at North Andover. I told him that I would like to place an order and he told me like this in his words: "WHAT DO YOU WANT?". After he told me WHAT DO YOU WANT, I hang up the phone, right away. Very terrible customer service. I then deleted that restaurant from my cellular phone. I do not want to go to that restaurant, anymore.

Fantastic service, great food, lots on the menu. Came here on a Friday night and was seated right away. The interior is much prettier than you would expect from a strip mall. The service was great. We ordered the vegetarian sampler as an appetizer (Tons of food!) Slumdog Naan (green chilies), with raita, and a main dish. Everything was very flavorful, not very spicy though. Tons of food. Great price, and we had leftovers. I will definitely return.

I was enjoying my meal when I felt my tooth break. I had it fixed and figured it was just my bad luck, though I always wondered why it happened during that meal as there was nothing particularly hard about the ingredients in the dish I was eating. About a year later, I was eating there and I felt something hard while chewing. Before actually biting down on it, I had luckily detected this so took it out. It was a small stone. I spoke to the staff and they admitted sometimes their food has rocks in it as they can't control what comes from India?! This is unacceptable. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant at all costs.

Food- Indian is my favorite ethic cuisine and I really wanted to like this place more than I did. The food was fine, I tried the tandoori chicken and veggie korma to see how they do on the staples and they were average. The chicken and veggie pakoras were dry when I tried those my following visit. Nothing stood out. Prices- On par with other places. Service- The people are friendly enough, but the service was slow both times. Atmosphere- It's clean inside, but dark as a cave if you're not near the windows. It's really the epitome of average, nothing stands out either way. The service and darkness leave a bit to be desired. It's just a place to get suitable Indian food if the craving hits and you're in the area, but pales in comparison to Kashmir. Don't expect anything to blow you away.

  • Alysoun E.

I wrote a review three years ago saying that the food was ok though overpriced, and the service was horrible. however, we went again last week and saw a remarkable improvement in the attentiveness, courtesy, and helpfulness of the staff. nice job - sounds like they're listening! but they're still using those metallic water glasses that taste really odd.

Review of buffet only: +: good service, quiet, food is decent -: the lighting is too dark!!!!! The freshness # of choices of food does not compare to Kashmir in salem, nh....also: put in an order for dessert but it was never brought out to us...all in all, if ure in the area, track northward for about 30 min and eat at Kashmir instead!!!

Went there for lunch today with some old friends. I admit it has been a while since I visited. We were all surprised to see they don't have the buffet anymore, and the place was empty. What I found most odd was the pastry case. Who buys cupcakes at an Indian restaurant? Service was extremely slow, and the food was average. The waiter never came back to see if we needed our drinks refilled, that may have been a blessing, because he was flooded in cologne. Won't Gozo back, it just wasn't worth it.

  • Kip V.

We are not going back after our experience recently. We were greeted - if you can call it that - by a stone-faced waiter who took us to a table that wasn't set. We wondered why we weren't just seated at one of the several set tables. Another waiter plunked down the plates and silverware without setting them. My husband, who had been a big fan of this restaurant for the past three years, said he was so uncomfortable with the rudeness and weird vibe that he wanted to leave...and so we did. The last time we ate there, about 4 months ago, it was delicious, and the service was really quite good. Not sure what happened. The "Y" of Bollywood has fallen off the sign - That should have told us something was off.

I hate to do this to a restaurant who I've been so loyal to over the years...but I have to retract a couple stars since I wrote my last review on this place a few years ago. This is one of the first Indian restaurants my husband and I started frequenting since moving to North Andover. But these days, they don't seem to be as busy as they used to be...I speculate the biggest reason is from their incessant number of attempts to change things up. They had a decent lunch buffet set up. But then they decided to change the buffet layout and add a new station. Then they took away the new station. Then the buffet went away altogether. And then they replaced the buffet with some preset lunch course on the menu that offered little "samplings" (y'know, in case you missed the variety of...ahem...a buffet?). And if that wasn't enough lunchtime back & forth, they also started up a bakery. Then they decided to bring back the buffet. And then the bakery went away... A lot of the original staff members whom we had grown so fond of have also moved on as well - we miss them! They added a great vibe to the restaurant. The service is still courteous and attentive but we definitely miss the upbeat, smiley crew that we had gotten to know and looked forward to seeing. My family still enjoys lunch here. We just don't stop in as often as we used to...but the food quality is consistent and the waitstaff always pleasant. We still love them...we're just not "in love" with them anymore. Could this be the beginning of an imminent separation? Stayed tuned to find out...

Incredibly delicious chicken tikka masala and garlic nan. The portions are smaller than I would have liked (and I say this as a 5 foot, 100lb woman). They only gave one dish of rice for my friend and I, even tho we both ordered separate dishes, so we had to ask for more. They are slightly more expensive than other Indian restaurants, but the food was so delicious that I don't care about that part. I just wish the portions were bigger so there'd be some to take home. I would definitely go back!

  • RJ S.

The Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent. I wanted the buffet to go- but they do not allow that (something I have never experienced.) I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and enjoyed a very generous portion. The service was very kind and I will be sure to visit again.

We ate here yesterday and I am on the fence about this place, as the food was good but definitely our overall dining was not so great. First off, there seemed a lot of servers and bus help but I had to ask for water twice, including once when my food came and my requests were ignored. Our waiter, although was nice, appeared new and clueless about service. This is something I have never experienced in an Indian restaurant as they are usually right on top of service. Also, menu is very minimal compared to others and quantities were small. I loved the bread and my husband's meal was good, mine was okay. I guess I expected more.

  • Don W.

I really liked the lunch buffet. $10 for all the Indian food you can eat. Sure, you don't get the most expensive stuff, but the selection, quantity, and quality make up for it. Service was what you'd expect for a buffet - they ask you if you want something to drink, clear the dirty plates away, and stay out of the way. The decor was good but the buffet seems like it's in the darkest part of the restaurant. The open kitchen is good looking and clean. The only thing that will keep me from being a regular at the Bollywood Grill is its location. If it was closer, I'd go back regularly and try entrees that aren't part of the buffet. But it's in North Andover so I won't get back there much, even though i want to.

  • Anne W.

Went here today for their lunch buffet. Wow.. pricey at almost $13 when you can get an entree for about $9. It was okay but definitely not the most tasty buffet I have ever had. Pretty empty until 12 pm. Very unattentive when it came with the water.. I noticed that the water lady only served people that were still eating the buffet and not ones that were chillin out just chatting.

First of all, let me say that I am a big fan of Indian food and have been to quite a few places all over the country. I've only been for dinners, so I can't say anything about their lunch. With that said...Bollywood Grill's food is really top notch. The food is excellent, the service is top notch, and the setting is perfect. I've been here 15 or so times, each time my family and I get different dishes and we've never had a bad dish. We come here for special events, as it's a guarantee that it'll be good. The servers are prompt and kind. And it's a great place to go on a date or to catch up with family as it's always quiet and you don't need to yell. Tip: Get the mango lassi...so good!

This place has changed. New chef. They apparently bake cakes now. Didn't try any. Usual food was not as good as I've come to expect. Apps and breads were overcooked and greasy. Vindaloo has lost its flavor in the hotness. Papadam was waxy and tasted like burnt cardboard. The waitress said they've changed vendors, but that doesn't explain the change in cooking just ingredients. We've been eating here for years and I've always loved the food, ambiance, and service. I'm off to find a new Indian place. *sigh*

Yelp, you really never lie, do you? Bollywood Grill is precisely four stars worth of restaurant. I snuck in before the Second Snowmageddon of the Winter and the spacious restaurant had about a dozen other brave souls sitting down to meals inside. Both the service (friendly and engaging without being overbearing) and the ambiance (they really embrace the Bollywood name) were memorably positive, and coupled with my hunger, prepared me for the feast. And a feast it was - rich, flavorful chicken tikki masala and palak paneer, piping hot garlic naan and chicken pakoras. Everything was fresh, the spices popped and I left full. So why four stars instead of five? The price. Those four items cost about $45 or so. I'd have loved it even more if everything was 10% less expensive. Still, though, you can't go wrong with Bollywood Grill. It's a gem in North Andover.

  • Kim K.

Yummy Indian food served piping hot. The service was good but the meal was a bit overpriced for quantity. The Bollywood theme is a little over the top. It reminded me of the Babu episode of Seinfeld; people want delicious Indian food, no need to make it more relatable or Americanized! Also, thank god they are open until 10:30PM! Everything else around here is closed at 5!

I've been here in the past and was never really pleased with their food. Decided to give them a second chance and went there for their lunch buffet. There were a wide variety of options, but the food was lacking in flavor. Some of the dishes, mushroom saag, tasted rancid. The service is slow. They could have brought hot naan to each table, that's always an added bonus. Will not be going back.

Take my word for it, we have tried virtually every Indian restaurant in New England and Bollywood Grill is the best. They know how to use spices and the sauces are rich and oh so tasty. Our favorites are the Vegetable Pakoras, Chicken Balti, the Novratana Korma and the Mango Lassis are to die for. The service is always great as well! If you want fabulous Indian food then go to Bollywood!

Brought a bunch of friends here for dinner one night, some of which have never had Indian food. Our waiter was very accommodating and even offered to explain some of the dishes to us (he could tell some of us had no idea what to order). Food was great as always--& everyone loved it!

  • Chris C.

I really enjoyed this place. The food is fresh, and there are several really good options. I don't even know what some of the dishes were made of, but that didn't matter, it was all good. There really wasn't anything I didn't like, just certain dishes that I really enjoyed. The next time I go, I'll be sure to update this review with the names of the dishes, sorry for the lack of info. Generally, the food has a mild and pleasant taste with a really good compliment of spices/sauces. Some dishes were spicy/hot, but nothing over the top, as in not being too spicy. After having 2 plates worth of food for a late lunch/ early dinner (the only meal I had all day), I was full, but I didn't feel lethargic which is the normal feeling I get from eating that much food at most other places. I would most definitely come back when I'm not in the mood for the traditional American style dinner. Give this place a shot, if you're up for something different, this is your place. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is because I felt like I was being watched the entire time by the hostess, and I have yet to experience the place during dinner time. Otherwise, the service was good (even considering the being watched situation), and the food does not disappoint.

Bollywood Grill is SICK (in a good way). I admit I only go to the buffet, which is every day 11am - 330pm. After that is Indian nap time, then they drink some tea and start back up again for dinner. They only bone you $12.99 for the buffet, and I tip because I want to go to heaven, so I end up just dropping a steady $18 a visit. I don't know the names of any of the dishes, I've never looked at a menu, but I still try and hit the buffet on as many Sundays as feasible. I call the options at the buffet usually by color. The Orange is my favorite. Greens good too, that's the Popeye one. There's no reason to pass on the yellow one. "Is there any bread left?" Naan for you! I get some of the naan, and make what I call Indian pizza. Which is just Naan on the bottom of the plate, and everything from the buffet on top. You've got no choice but to top off the experience with their dessert. Again not sure what it is, some kind of rice-ish, yogurt-ish, dessert. It's unbelievable, and if you have no dignity or self respect you can just drink the little bowl of dessert without a spoon. Straight chug it. The staff are great too. They've got a sense of humor, and enjoyed my comment of having a terrific view of a parking lot in Lawrence.

I stopped here for early dinner and enjoyed the meal very much. I had the Baingan Bharta, which is an eggplant dish, and a sweet Lassi to go with it . One person in my party does not eat spicy, so she had the Chicken Tikka Masala, which she enjoyed. Another had the Mattar Paneer, which is a homemade cheese cooked with peas, accompanied by a refreshing Mango Lassi. The dishes were complemented with Basmati rice and their Khasta Roti, their whole wheat baked bread. The decor with the stars is kind of cute, and I would have enjoyed watching video clips of some of the performances of these Indian stars if they had thought to set it up to round out the concept.

I don't know what has taken me so long to write a review of Bollywood Grill. We've now eaten there at least a dozen times--both for dinner and for the lunch buffet--since our maiden visit this past December. Since discovering Bollywood, we have not returned to Passage to India in Salem or Anmol in Beverly. Yeah, it's located in a strip mall on the Lawrence/North Andover line, but all I must say about that is don't judge a book by its cover. And one of the virtues of the strip mall location is parking is not an issue. Our "go to" entree dishes thus far have been the Special Goat Curry (#1), Lamb Tikka Kebab, Chicken Vindaloo, Chicken Narattan, and Lamb Balti. For the veggies, we've enjoyed the Novratana Korma (mixed veg), Baingan Bharta (eggplant), Shaahi Bhindi (okra), Dhingri Dulma (mushrooms and cheese), and Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese). We've also tried the Special Goat Biryani, which was delightfully spicy and flavorful, but ordering a rice dish on top of the basmati rice that is already served felt like we had a little too much rice on the table. Another plus is that the food is perfectly seasoned. I've never once left feeling that I needed to drink a gallon of water to dilute the excess salt that's often in restaurant food. On our very first trip, we did try the Combo Platter, just to compare the offerings to Passage to India and Anmol, and we felt the Bollywood version was fresher and lighter. We've since skipped appetizers so we can add a second entree along with a veg dish (perfect for 2 adults and 1 child) to complement the basmati rice as well as a couple of orders of naan (usually one Rogini and one Garlic). Whenever we want to go out to eat and we're looking for hearty, healthy family-style fare, Bollywood is always in the running.

Average not authentic indian cusine. The place itself is very nice, the service is great and the nice window into the kitchen allows you to see whats going on whether its good or bad.The restaraunt itself would score a 4 star, but its the food i came here for. The food unfortunately, is not that great, by this i dont mean in taste or quality. Its tastes curryish, and its fresh and looks great. My problem is having cooked indian cusine, and having eaten a lot of indian food, i am failing to understand what they are trying to do? If the idea is to make Americans like indian food by making generic curry sauces and adding some other spice pastes to them to make it a Korma, or a Tikka Masala, or Jalfrezi, etc. Then may be thats what americans want? But i am sure they would rather taste authentic regional indian dishes. To me it is just curry sauce with some different spice pastes added to try to make it taste different to every other curry. Like i said the restaurant is nice, the staff are friendly, and the food tastes good and is fresh. But To me it isnt anything like the tastes of india, if you want that go to the Kashmir in Salem, NH far more authentic.

I grew up in London and was surrounded by exceptional Indian restaurants. The food at the Bollywood Grill is as good as any of them. The Lamb Korma is spectacularly good. The service is attentive without being intrusive, and they will let you sit with an empty plate in front of you without feeling that they have to rush in and scoop it up. A meal here can be a leisurely treat. Thank goodness. Honestly, a great place to eat

Hooray for Bollywooooooood!! I'll admit that as a New Yorker, I'm definitely prone to moments of food snobbery and you'd be hard pressed to convince me that I couldn't find better, or at least comparable - at home. Bollywood Grill puts the smack down on my NY snobbery (at least for Indian...let's not get carried away) The decor is nice and inviting, and the whole Bollywood theme is fully realized with glamor shots of famous Indian actors all over the tables and walls. The menu is cleverly (if not somewhat cheesily) tailored to the Bollywood theme. The restaurant is super clean and well maintained. The menu is pretty extensive. Something for everyone - chicken, fish, lamb, goat and look under Evergreen Hits for vegetarian options. And you know what - props for not selling out and serving beef, you keep it real Bollywood Grill!!! Each item has an informative description of what's in the dish as well as what region it originates from. Also a decent wine list, and some good Indian beers to choose from. The cocktails look really interesting. The Rasam soup is an Oscar winner for me. I get sad when I'm almost done greedily slurping it up. Try it for sure. The Malai Kofta, Chicken Massalam and Pishawari Nan are sure fire nominees as well. The only thing that could use a little work are the 3 chutneys they bring out at the beginning of your meal - all a bit bland and watery. The service is always excellent and friendly, and they will take their time to answer questions. It is a wee bit overpriced, as the portions are somewhat small, but its excusable since the food will not disappoint. Treat yourself.

Portions are small, flavor is good. Price is ASTRONOMICAL. Far too high for the amount you get. Having family from India we regularly eat indian food and seek out restaraunts. This is my least favorite place. Try these places instead: Tantric, Boston, MA - best around! or for something local Royal India Restaraunt, Haverhill, MA - it's a dive but well priced and delicious!

AMAZING! As soon as you walk in, the staff are friendly, and helpful when ordering. The atmosphere is formal and romantic. They have an extensive selection of dishes, everything I have tried has come out delicious. I would completely recommend this restaurant to any Indian food lover.

As someone mentioned before it's located in an old school shopping center but the interior is quite nice. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly without being smoothering. I haven't been for the lunch buffet but I have been here several times for dinner and the food is very good, the portions large. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either, it's just right.

The inside of Bollywood Grill surprised me. I'd seen it for years, but never gone in, and I thought it was more of a buffet place so I was pleasantly surprised to see the cool decor and huge menu in a sit down environment. My main complaint was the slowness of everything involved in eating there. My friend and I, along with someone who came in after us, stood around waiting to be seated for over five minutes. We saw multiple staff members standing around and chatting, and looking right at us, but no one came over to help. We were just about to leave when a man came over to seat us. I loved the booths and the television playing Indian pop hits. Great atmosphere. The menu was huge. The food take awhile to come out, and then we were less than impressed. The bread looked like it sat under a heating light all done. I'm used to really rich and delicious bread from the place I usually eat at closer to home. My food was super spicy. My friend's was so spicy that his face turned bright red- but, the waitress had at least given him a heads up before he ordered. Nothing was said to me, and I wish they had mentioned how spicy it would be. I ended up mixing it with some yogurt sauce and some of my friend's plain white rice and only then could I eat it. I also found it interesting that they make wedding cakes. They had a nice display and it looked like the cakes in their display were delicious. We really didn't have time to order dessert though as our entire experience had taken so long already. Even paying took over ten minutes between giving the waitress our card and getting it back! I probably wouldn't go back mostly because the place I go to near home is just so much better. I wouldn't say not to try the place though, especially if you have time and love spicy Indian.

This place has a new Chef, I think they realized some customers didn't quite enjoy sub standard and salty food. The two dishes I took so far on two different occasions were really good, good they got a new chef. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I will give this new Chef an 8, you keep up with good food, and I will keep eating at your establishment.

Very poor Indian food. I think people love this place because they don't know what Indian food really is. Walked in, and they never took my drink order. Never took it. The buffet was old (even though it was prime hours). I had to ask twice to have Nan bread made. The place wasn't super busy, tons of people, but they couldn't keep the food stocked. Very odd. They actually didn't care. The meat was like grisly. Definitely not the place to go if you enjoy Indian.

Bollywood Grill is awesome- definitely a hidden gem tucked away in a little strip mall. The host and waitress were both very nice and helpful. The naan was great, as were all of the main dishes!

Would it be weird to say this place is good for take-out? You would think that when you go to a restaurant, you want to sit down and enjoy a meal. There's nothing uninviting about the place, but I think my fellow yelpers have nailed it - the service isn't that great. The last time I went here was with a group of 5 other people, and we ate from the buffet. I had been vegetarian for a week so I was definitely in the right place for food - they had 4 veggie entrees, which were awesome. However, sitting down and eating, I felt like I was at a Chinese buffet... wait staff kept asking if I was done with my plate to remove it, keeping tabs on how many plates we used and hovering over us. They did take forever to help with us with silverware and check requests. It's just the little details that they can tighten up on. Overall: Not bad but not great.

Great food all in all. The sweet lassi is heavenly. Had most dishes and the weekend buffet. The owner is a friendly dude and makes you feel at home.

Bollywood has the best vegetarian korma around. My wife and I love the korma, veggie samosas and garlic naan. Mmmmmmmm!

We've been dining at Bollywood grill for nearly ten years. Although we often choose takeout, this is not a reflection of the atmosphere or service offered at this delightful restaurant. It is very clean, nicely decorated and the service is fantastic. What I love the most about Bollywood is their cuisine! I admit to ordering the same things over and over again (Baingan Bhartha, Novratana Korma, Palak Panir, Kashmiri Rogan Josh and my children's favorite, Chicken Tikka Masala .) I can promise you will not be disappointed in any of these dishes. Their Baingan Bhartha is the best I have ever tasted ~ rich, smokey and tangy, not too oily and bright with flavors. I have walked out of more than one Indian restaurant with my food still hot on the plate. At Bollywood, I am always satisfied. Although I have noticed the food is better on some visits rather than others (depending on who is cooking), Bollywood Grill far surpasses other local Indian restaurants.

Had Samosas for appetizer. It was ok. They were made from indian cheese (paneer) instead of the tradional potatos. Had chicken biriyani. It was excellent to the core. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Many restaurants serve overcooked chicken indicating that it was not cooked on order. Restaurant is a little pricy but for chicken biriyani its was worth it. Other concern I had was....the takeout counter is right at the end of the restaurant. You have to cross all the tables to go there. It feels a little odd. Terrible design, very good food.

I'm new to Indian food, I'll only go with friends who know what to order. But this place on the North Andover/Lawrence line is great! I just found out that there is one in Shrewsbury too. SO CLEAN!! And the staff is very attentive. Your water glass can barely get below half full when someone appears to fill it up again. The onion nan bread is delish, all the nan bread excellent, and they have about 8 different kinds to try. The pistachio chicken and veggie simosas are wonderful too. The decor is very pretty, modern and clean, all of the tables have pictures of Bollywood movie stars on them in black and white, and the bathrooms are gorgeous. Stop by, the Bollywood Grill is a great place to ease yourself into trying different kinds of food.

I finally convinced my husband to go out for Indian food with me, as I'm a big fan, he is not. We had gotten a great deal using a $25 Restuarants.com gift certificate purchased in advance for about $2 (what a deal!). The place was crowded when we arrived on Saturday night. There was a good atmosphere with a Bollywood movie theme. We sat near the back kitchen (recommended) and got to watch the cooks made kabobs and naan, etc. Kind of fun. We started off our meal with some extra delcious garlic naan, fresh out of the oven, covered with a butter, topped with lots of garlic (my favorite!). Because we had the gift certificate, we splurged with a Bollywood Combo Appetizer, which included half vegetarian, half meat items - a great app to split and to try a handful of different appetizers. To be honest, after eating the naan, with the yummy dipping sauces, and the Combo Appetizer, both my husband and I were nearly full. (Be careful - pace yourself!) I don't know much about what's what when it comes to Indian food, but I know in all the buffets I've tried in the past, I love the lighter, vegetarian paneer (cheese) dishes. My favorite is Matter Paneer, but I found something that seemed like it would be similar and got the servers recommendation and it matched up. Got something like Saanghi Paneer. It was delicious, as I had expected. My husband got the lamb tikki masala. His opinion was that there wasn't a ton of meat in it. By the end of the meal, we were both very full and took home a good amount of the appetizers and half of my meal. With a sprite and a beer, the bill came to around $55 (before the G.C.) so not bad on the price, especially since lots still came home for left overs. I'm eager to try the buffet, as I always like trying something new.

The Bollywood Grill is located in a strip-mall wasteland in North Andover. I found myself figuratively stranded there and decided to give this place a try. Bellied up to the small bar, having ordered some Shimp Vindaloo and Alu Paratha to-go, I knew I was in for a treat. The revolving door of Indian and Pakistani people joining the to-go queue while I waited was my first hint. The ambiance was nice, though the 'Bollywood' theme seemed a bit cheesy. The Vindaloo was nice and spicy and the Paratha was a soothing compliment. Rice, aromatic and fluffy. My only complaint was that it felt a little expensive for what I got. Maybe I felt cheated, upscale atmosphere unappreciated, as I left the restaurant, to-go bags in hand. I'd go again, sure, if I found myself in North Andover. In that case, however, it might be awhile. I like to make it a habit not to get figuratively stranded.

i only went here once, for the lunch buffet, and i was pleasantly surprised, considering it was my first time having Indian food. The atmosphere is really nice inside, and i love the purple interior with stars. The food tasted very fresh, and was not too spicy. I love the complexity of all the different foods they had to offer. The price is good for buffet ( I think about $12 per person). and the best part is, is that unlike normal buffets, I did not feel lethargic, slow, or lazy after I was done eating two plates of food. I only had a little bit of each item (since I was curious) and still did not get to sample everything available. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there were many people there. I will be going back for sure.

This place was really good until they added the lunch buffet. I used to get take out here and recently it was pretty obvious that the tiki marsala was warmed up from the lunch buffet that afternoon and not fresh prepared. It has probably the nicest atmosphere of any Indian restaurant i have been to. They have an open kitchen and the restaurant has an open and airy feel. But until they get rid of the buffet i am done with it.

This is a strictly buffet review, i went here once for dinner and was just not at all happy (tiny portions, and i felt like i was paying way too much). Every time i get a chance to go here for the buffet i do. This place is like an oasis in a hangover situation if you ask me. The service can be a little slow, but it's a buffet what do you expect, and anyway the guys are really friendly so they're probably just entertaining somebody at the moment, chill you'll get your chance. Everything they make is great, and it seems like they switch things up a pretty decent amount, i love the rice pudding. Weekday buffet is cheaper and real affordable, weekend buffet is still affordable but not as awesome a deal.

Dined here for Mother's Day with both of my parents and one of my younger sisters. The servers were very polite and knowledgeable, even steering us away from a dish they thought might be too spicy for our liking. It wasn't necessary, since we're spice fiends, but it was still appreciated! Water glasses were kept filled and our main course arrived promptly after we finished the appetizers. The only not-perfect moments were near the end of our meal, when we had two different servers helping us (possibly the restaurant was overstaffed? There weren't many other guests there) in addition to the food runner. This led to an awkward exchange where one of the servers had already taken our dessert order and the other was not aware, and they both thought that the other was packing up our leftovers for us. Not a big deal and definitely didn't take away from our enjoyment of the delicious food! Just a little less polished than a more upscale place might be.

Not as good as Kashmir in Salem, NH. If you do eat here and think about choosing the buffet, look at it first to make sure that that food that's out at least looks fresh.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the suburbs. The food is fresh, and the flavors are authentic. I've done the lunch buffet once, and found it "meh" - but I've had dinner there more times than I could count and it's always delicious. My favorite items on the menu are the mango lassi (best I've ever had, hands down), chicken tikka masala (not a huge fan of spicy foods, this is perfectly seasoned), any kind of naan (they bake it fresh, and it shows), and the samosas. Entree portions are big enough to share- and that's usually what my best friend and I do when we go there. Order 2 entrees, 1 serving of basmati rice and share. I always leave here with leftovers- and stuffed. There's never a wait, and the waitstaff is friendly, and welcoming. It is located in a strip mall, which is odd - but the interior is quite nice. Despite being on the Lawrence line, it's a very safe area - and close to 495.

Consistently good food accompanied by friendly service. I have never been disappointed at this very good restaurant. There is also a cozy feeling inside this restaurant that might not be expected when first viewing its exterior at the end of a long strip mall. My wife and I are repeat customers at this nice restaurant.

While Bollywood Grill is not the best Indian food that I have eaten, it certainly get's high marks for the best that is near me. It's been a few months since I have been to the restaurant but I have been going there for a few years now and would recommend it to anyone in the area. Above anything, I appreciate the fact that a restaurant uses fresh ingredients and Bollywood is no exception. The Veggie Korma dish always has fresh carrots, cauliflower and other vegetables including cashews. This dish is extremely flavorful and has just the right amount of spice. Another fantastic dish at Bollywood is the Chicken Navrattan. It is hard to describe. The different spices leave the tastebuds craving more and compliments the basmati rice well. Other dishes that I would have to recommend are the Chicken Balti and of course, England's prized dish, Chicken Tikka Masala. The creamy tomato yogurt sauce is almost perfect. My own problem with the dish is that often I do not receive enough chicken pieces, it is more sauce than anything. As for service, I have never had a problem with the restaurant. Our waiter's have always been quite attentive and our copper water cups are never empty. The dishes come out promptly and are never cold. The restaurant's decor is fun and exciting without being over the top. My top recommendation from Bollywood would have to be the Peshwari (sp?) Nan. This is your typical nan baked with coconut, nut and raisins. If you have not tried this and are a fan of any of the above, I suggest at least one round. I hope to get back there soon. Any one up for some samosa's?

Great food and great service. First time we've been and WILL be back. Held off trying it out due to some poor reviews but I've decided to take them with a grain of salt as many YELPers are WHINErs. Eaten Indian in many cities and this is good food. Recently had indian in Cambridge and this rates right up there. Serving size was good as we had enough left for lunch tomorrow.

As convenient as this place is to Andover, bollywood grill is overpriced Indian food. The prices are more typical of a nicer Indian joint, but the dishes are ho-hum. I've been twice now and decided I should venture a bit farther down the road if I want good, reasonably priced Indian.

I freakin' love this place! The Chicken Tikka Masala is the best I've ever had and everyone that works there is unbelievably friendly. It's tucked away in an unappealing strip mall and if it weren't for my aunt telling me about it, I never would have stopped here. If you are in the area or close to...eat there. You won't regret it!

It's a tough call, but this may be my favorite Indian restaurant on the planet. Who would have thought they'd open such an amazing Indian spot in North Andover of all places! I mean, It's in the same strip mall as a Brigham's! Every time I'm back in town, I have to eat here at least once. Although, I will admit drinking water out of metal cups kind of freaks me out. It's like when you accidentally bite your fork.

I went here recently for the first time with friends and I LOVED it. The atmosphere is really classy, yet comfortable. The service was GREAT! The selection on the menu was vast and the food delish. I can't think of one aspect that I didn't love about this place. I got the mango lassi to drink and it was awesome. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some other things on the menu.

Restaurant Indian food is very different than home-cooked, and I have had a lot of both. My husband is South Indian, and most restaurants serve Northern Indian food. Indian food is also great for vegetarians, like myself, and this place is no exception. In-fact, my vegan sister and now brother-in-law had their rehearsal dinner here the night before their wedding in Nov. 2004. I truly love this place. It's in a strip mall off of Rte. 114 in N. Andover, with a Payless and some other stores, and it's almost tucked away amongst all of that stuff. If you're in the area, please, try it. They'll make your food as mild or as spicy as you like, the service is very nice, and the staff are so kind.

Not the best Indian food I've ever had, but very good! Service was good, no complaints there. Our server recommended a particular Pinot Noir and it was excellent, so I was pleased about that. We ordered Alu Tikki as an appetizer and it was very tasty, though also very greasy. Then we had Chicken Massulum (chicken in an almond sauce) with rice, and Lamb Biryani, both of which were very good. Some of the chicken and lamb pieces were particularly chewy and/or had some fat/skin in bits bigger than I would have liked, but that's a mild complaint. We also had Poori, which again was very greasy. Next time we'll try naan instead. Overall, a very pleasant meal.

As a fan of Indian food, the Bollywood Grill satisfies my craving each and every time. I've read a lot of complaints regarding their lunch buffet which I have never tried and have only ordered off of the menu. I don't understand all of the complaints written about the price and portion size. Not every meal should be supersized and I believe that as Americans, we've come to expect portions big enough to feed a family of four. Larger quantities is not always the way to go. I would prefer a reasonably portioned meal where the quality and flavor play center stage. In this regard, they meet my expectations. I have sampled many items on their menu trying most of the chicken dishes which are fantastic. Their lentil soup served as a starter is wonderfully aromatic and delicious. The service is attentive and polite. The open kitchen concept with the glass wall makes for an enjoyable diversion while you are waiting for your meal to arrive. As most of the positive reviewers have already noted, the Bollywood Grill is worth a trip, or two.

Horrendous Food I got fooled by reading the rest of the reviews, seems like the only way this guy can get people to eat his place. We were on our way to NY and did the horrible mistake of eating lunch buffet at this place. The food was stale, smelly and distasteful to say the least. Egg curry had no eggs, Paneer subzi had no Paneer, Naans were smelly. My recommendation, avoid this place.

Bollywood Grill is AWESOME. I absolutely love Indian food. I only have it a few times per year because it is so rich and decadent. This place is definately worth a visit. The food is always fresh and delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. The service is friendly and not in your face. Do not be fooled by the location: I am a bit of a food snob and I appreciate ambiance so it's location in a strip mall is not the best. However the interior is very classy and approprietly "Bollywood" themed, adorned with images of famous Indian actors and actresses, comfortable and private seating, and a view of the kitchen as they work thier magic from behind glass. My personal favorite things to order are: Chicken Tikka Masala (mind blowing) Chicken Do Piaza Vegetable Korma Garlic Naan Bollywood Appetizer Platter and of course Mango Lassi

Delicious, consistent Indian fare at reasonable prices. The waitstaff and owner are the nicest people around. Don't be fooled by the exterior (strip mall restaurant)- interior is cozy and fun with a Bollywood movies theme.

Hear ye, hear ye yonder townies. Bollywood Grill has standard indian fare. Nothing special. It does have some cool decor (that's interior design to the nonfrench speakers here), a respectable selection to choose from, and a big ass parking lot but other than that, there are much better indian places closer to Boston.

The Bollywood Grill is awesome. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun. Photos of Bollywood stars adorn the walls and you get your water in spiffy metal goblets. My only complaint is that the prices are a bit steep. However, with the lack of Indian restaurants this far away from Boston, Bollywood is still worth a visit.

I went to Bollywood Grill this past week and wanted to jump on Yelp to write a rave review! The food was authentic and very, very good. The waiter was nice and helped us decide what to order, although, was a little slow as the place got busier. The environment is a bit fun, but mildly cheesy with the Bollywood theme. If you can look past the exterior and the cheesy menus, the food is fantastic and delicious! Truly authentic and has great taste!

As other posters point out, it's in a strip mall with a TJ Maxx, a Market Basket and a liquor store, how much more New England can you get? But go in and you'll find exquisite, freshly made Indian food prepared at a glassed-in cooking area at the back of the restaurant. I've always enjoyed the saag and the poori bread. Sothy likes the meat samosas which are handmade and crispy. Go for it!

Just got back from yet another perfect meal at Bollywood grille. . We started with the Kambachar Salad, which is a Cucumber tomato salad in a Tamarind sauce, and Chicken Pakoras, which are boneless chicken pieces seasoned and then battered in chickpea flour and fried which are moist and flavorful. Both were outstanding. I had the lamb Shahi Korma and my spouse had the Kashmiri Rogan Josh for our main courses. I almost always order the Korma because it is unbelievably delicious, savory, rich and spicy and not in the least bit hot. We had never ordered the Kashmiri Rogan Josh before , which was lamb in a savory tomato based sauce, again not hot. We also had the Garlic Naan, which is a garlic spiced flat bread. Everything was amazingly delicious. Before we found this place my Spouse LOVED Indian food and I could never understand why, since finding this place, I totally get it. Truly a dependably wonderful meal. If you are not yet a fan of Indian food, you will be a convert once you dine here. By the way the Mojitos are great and if you drink, try the the Mangotini.
